The Keychron V5 Max is a mechanical keyboard with a compact 96% layout, which integrates a full numeric keypad into a reduced footprint. It provides three connection modes: a 1000 Hz polling rate via its 2.4 GHz receiver, Bluetooth 5.1 for multi-device pairing, and a detachable USB-C cable for wired use. The keyboard's internal construction features a gasket-mount design and sound-dampening foam to alter the typing feel and sound profile. It comes equipped with hot-swappable Gateron Jupiter Brown switches, allowing users to replace switches without requiring any soldering.

Extensive customization is available through QMK and VIA firmware, which permits complete remapping of keys, layers, and macros saved directly to the keyboard's onboard memory. The south-facing RGB LEDs provide configurable illumination for each key. Keycaps are made from double-shot PBT plastic and feature an OSA profile for durability and a distinct feel. An integrated programmable knob allows for direct control over volume or other user-assigned functions. The internal rechargeable battery supports up to 225 hours of operation on a single charge.
