The Sony HT-A8000 is a soundbar engineered with 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, which utilizes eleven speaker units to generate a wide and immersive sound field. Its 7.0.2 channel configuration includes dedicated up-firing speakers to reproduce height-based audio effects common in object-based formats. The unit's internal architecture features five tweeters and four integrated woofers, providing a full-range audio spectrum from a single enclosure. This design aims to deliver spatial audio without the need for physical rear speakers, simplifying the home theater setup.

For connectivity, the soundbar is equipped with an HDMI 2.1 input and an HDMI output that supports eARC, allowing for the transmission of uncompressed audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X from a compatible television. The system supports a range of wireless protocols, including Wi-Fi for network streaming via Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and a built-in Chromecast.
