The Philips Lumea IPL 9900 Series BRI977/00 (Pink Gold) uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to target hair pigment and inhibit regrowth. By delivering light pulses to the hair root, the device reduces future hair growth over a course of treatments. It is designed for skin tones I through V. The system is most effective on naturally dark blonde, brown, and black hair; it is not suitable for very light hair or very dark skin tones.

The device is rechargeable and cordless, allowing for use on the body, face, bikini area, and underarms. An integrated sensor checks skin tone to ensure the light intensity is appropriate for the area being treated. Five adjustable levels provide control over the output, and a built-in ultraviolet filter protects the skin. Two operation modes and interchangeable heads accommodate different body zones for efficient light delivery. The included AC adapter supports variable voltage.
