The Synology DX1215II is a dedicated desktop storage expansion unit providing 12 additional drive bays for compatible Synology DiskStation NAS systems. It connects to the host device via a proprietary InfiniBand expansion cable to increase total storage capacity without requiring a full hardware migration. This unit supports both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA hard drives and solid-state drives, offering flexibility for different storage media. It is intended for small office or home lab environments where scaling existing RAID volumes online is a priority.

The black desktop chassis measures 300 mm by 340 mm and weighs 9.02 kilograms, housing an internal AC power supply. It features a hot-swappable drive bay design that allows for disk replacement or addition while the host system remains fully operational. Cooling is regulated by two internal fans to maintain stable operating temperatures between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius. Status and disk activity are monitored through integrated LED indicators on the front panel and managed through the DiskStation Manager interface on the connected NAS.
