A JBOD option is also available to use the drives independently. The unit provides security for stored files through integrated 256-bit AES hardware encryption, which is enabled with a user-set password. This configuration is suitable for users managing large volumes of data that require either speed or protection.

Data transfer is handled via a USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface, with sequential read speeds up to 360 MB/s. The enclosure includes two front-facing USB 3.0 hub ports, allowing for the connection of additional accessories like flash drives or card readers. The My Book Duo is formatted for Windows out of the box and is compatible with macOS after reformatting. An external AC adapter is required for power.
