The CHIEFTEC CMR-2131SAS is an internal backplane module designed for data backup and to maximize storage density within a server or workstation chassis. It occupies two 5.25\" drive bays, transforming them into a centralized hub for system storage management. This module supports a mix of 2.5\" and 3.5\" drives, providing flexibility for system builders who use different media types for their data needs. The chassis is built with SECC steel to provide a durable foundation for the installed hardware.

This hardware enables hot-swapping, allowing for the removal or addition of drives while the host system remains active. For data security, individual physical key locks are located on each tray to ensure drives remain properly seated and protected from unauthorized tampering. Thermal management is handled by an integrated 80 mm fan, which works in conjunction with a set of visual indicators to notify the user of fan failure or overheating incidents.
